A Kalamazoo guitar was donated
Mick Kolassa of Oxford, who writes: "The guitar is a 1937 Kalamazoo KG-11, typical of the 'parlor guitars' of its day, slightly smaller but with a very big sound. It was the first step up after a Stella, and made for those who liked the Gibson style and sound, but couldn't afford a true Gibson. Gibson was founded and based in Kalamazoo, Michigan, so they gave that name to their entry level guitar. Robert Johnson was known to play a Kalamazoo KG-14, which is a slightly larger version of this guitar."
The guitar of R. L. Burnside, hill country blues boogie master, is now part of our collection.
The Museum has also acquired the guitar of Michael James, "Dr. Mike," who taught in our Arts and Education program.
African instruments were donated by Acoustic Africa.

Blues Music Awards 2011
The Blues Foundation, based in Memphis, has announced the winners for the organization's 32nd annual Blues Music Awards after holding an awards ceremony on Thursday, May 5th, 2011 at the Cook Convention Center in Memphis. This year's event was a real houserockin' blow-out, running better than seven hours and featuring performances by dozens of deserving nominees. Like last year, the awards ceremony was broadcast live on XM Sirius satellite radio, on B.B. King's Bluesville channel.
There were few real surprises among this year's group of Blues Music Award nominees. Several artists, including Robin Rogers, John Nemeth, Tad Robinson, and Shemekia Copeland, all received one or more well-deserved nominations, and overall this year's crop of talent is pretty dang impressive. 'Cheers' In Heaven - Big Bucks For Clapton Guitars
NEW YORK (AP) -- Even without his nimble fingers touching their strings, Eric Clapton's guitars rocked New York City on Wednesday as an auction of them brought in millions of dollars.
A 1948 Gibson L-5P sold for $82,960, well above its presale estimate of $20,000 to $30,000. And a replica of a prized Clapton guitar that duplicates the cigarette burns and belt buckle scratches found on the original sold for $30,500 at the auction.
The sale at Bonhams New York included 75 guitars and 55 amps from the British artist's collection and brought in $2.15 million. Proceeds were to benefit a drug and alcohol treatment center Clapton founded in the West Indies.
The 65-year-old Rock and Roll Hall of Famer is a recovered addict who established the nonprofit Crossroads Centre in Antigua in 1998.
The replica Fender Stratocaster "Blackie" guitar is inscribed in silver felt pen with "Eric Clapton 2010." The original "Blackie" sold at Christie's in 2004 for $959,500. It was the most expensive guitar ever to be sold at auction, said Bonhams' expert, Carey Wallace. The Los Angeles-based Guitar Center bought it.
Other Clapton guitars sold even better than the "Blackie" replica Wednesday.
An original custom-made black Fender "Eric Clapton" signature Stratocaster sold for $51,240, including the buyer's premium. It had been used during the Cream Reunion Shows in New York and London in 2005. Its presale estimate was $20,000 to $30,000.
The amp with the loudest sale price was a pair of 1997 Fender Twin Amps, estimated at $9,000 to $12,000. They sold for a booming $42,700.

Buddy Guy bicara Blues

The 71's perkembangan musik ke depan
Salah satu band rock lokal membuat gelombang dengan musik baru, video baru dan suara baru.
Pada tahun 2009, The 71's mengguncang pemirsa hingga larut malam di Wal-Mart rekaman Live mereka, video hit Sekarang "Start Again.", The 71 telah menerjang melalui salah satu tempat atas Houston musik live, The House of Blues pada 14 Jan .
"Acara The House of Blues ini menarik," kata penyanyi dan gitaris 71, Keeton Coffman. "
"EP pertama kami, 'Rock and Roll Reaksi Volume 1,' keluar pada bulan Oktober," kata Coffman.
"'Rock and Roll Volume Reaksi 2' akan menjadi luar biasa," kata Coffman. "
